 Kibet, Kiplagat win Glo Lagos Half Marathon

Kenya’s Kibet Luke and Lornah Kiplagat of the Netherlands out-classed over 20, 000 other runners to win the men and women top prize money of $50, 000 (about N7. 5m) each at the 2nd Glo-Lagos International Half Marathon. The race which was flagged off at the Alaka Bus Stop in Surulere ended at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Onikan. Stephen Jurbe from Kaduna State was the first Nigerian male runner to arrive the finish point while Mary Akor, a US-based Nigerian from Benue State finished ahead of all Nigerian female runners. Both went home with brand new KIA Picanto cars.

The race sponsored by telecommunications giant, Globacom had over 40 elite athletes from Kenya , Uganda , Ethiopia , Rwanda , Ghana , South Africa and the Netherlands . Mr. Adewale Sangowawa, the Executive Director, Human Resources of Globacom.........

 Exxon Mobil, ARM, Berger, Chevron win Glo Corporate Marathon ....As MBI staff retain Media Race title

The merged Corporate Fun Run and Media Mock Marathon  of the Glo Lagos International Half Marathon lived up to its billing as a highly competitive contest  with ExxonMobil winning the star prize out of the over 200 highly rated companies that participated  in the event.

In the same vein, Mr. Ifeoluwa Oluokun of Minaj Broadcasting International won the Media Mock Marathon for the second consecutive season. Oluokun was also the first to cross the finish line in the combined Corporate and Media race.

While the ExxonMobil team won N1,000,000 as the  team with the lowest aggregate points in the Corporate Fun Run,  ARM Pension’s team  came second, carting away the prize money of N750,000.

The Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Skye Bank PLC, Mr. Akinsola Akinfemiwa, yesterday commended Globacom for successfully staging the second edition of Corporate Marathon which took place at the weekend.

Mr. Akinfemiwa, who was speaking shortly before the presentation of prizes to winners in this year’s competition, said the telecoms giant was reputed for innovativeness and quality service delivery which it brought to bear on the organization of the marathon.

“Apart from the fact that the race is good for the heart and health of participants generally, the more important issue is that the marathon programme has in-built mechanisms and strategies for raising funds for people with heart challenges. This is another novelty from Glo,” Mr. Akinfemiwa said.
