ExxonMobil, Julius Berger win Glo Corporate Marathon
*As MBI staff retain Media Race title

The merged Corporate Fun Run and Media Mock Marathon  of the Glo Lagos International Half Marathon lived up to its billing as a highly competitive contest  with ExxonMobil winning the star prize out of the over 200 highly rated companies that participated  in the event.

In the same vein, Mr. Ifeoluwa Oluokun of Minaj Broadcasting International won the Media Mock Marathon for the second consecutive season. Oluokun was also the first to cross the finish line in the combined Corporate and Media race.

While the ExxonMobil team won N1million as the  team with the lowest aggregate points in the Corporate Fun Run,  ARM Pension’s team  came second, carting away the prize money of N750,000. The Julius Berger Nigeria Limited team came third, winning the sum of N500,000. Placing fourth was the Chevron Nigeria team which won the sum of N250,000.

In the Media Mock Marathon which ran concurrently with the Corporate Fun Run, Jaiyeola Babatunde of Triple G Movie Company, Lagos came second while Edafe Jesse of Jeremy Radio station (95.1), Warri, came third. The Media Mock Marathon winners took home hi-end Nokia Phones with free air time worth N270,000.

Speaking on his winning streak, Oluokun said that Globacom had helped to bring out the innate talent in Nigerians. “People like me would never have been brought to the limelight but for Globacom,” he said. The first Corporate runner to cross the line, Uche Orizu of ExxonMobil said she had been training for five years for the corporate race, adding that she looked forward to winning more athletic laurels courtesy of Glo.

This year’s Corporate Fun Run was used to raise funds for the care of the heart through the Nigerian Heart Foundation. For this, the Chief Corporate Runner, Mr. Sola Akinfenwa, Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Skye Bank commended Globacom for doing something “from the heart for the heart”.

The Corporate Fun Run and Mock Marathon are a prelude to the Glo Lagos International Half Marathon which comes up on Saturday February 21, 2009.
