Glo has transformed Lagos Marathon--Skye Bank MD… as Momodu, Others laud Glo on innovation
The Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Skye Bank PLC, Mr. Akinsola Akinfemiwa, yesterday commended Globacom for successfully staging the second edition of Corporate Marathon which took place at the weekend.
Mr. Akinfemiwa, who was speaking shortly before the presentation of prizes to winners in this year’s competition, said the telecoms giant was reputed for innovativeness and quality service delivery which it brought to bear on the organization of the marathon.
“Apart from the fact that the race is good for the heart and health of participants generally, the more important issue is that the marathon programme has in-built mechanisms and strategies for raising funds for people with heart challenges. This is another novelty from Glo,” Mr. Akinfemiwa said.
“This marathon initiative further explains why most Nigerians are proud of Glo. The company does things that have relevance to the polity and also touch on the lives of our people, especially the less-privileged. There is no doubt that Glo has empowered most of its subscribers to actualize their cherished dreams because of the interconnectedness between communications and self-development,” Mr. Akinfemiwa, who was the Chief Corporate Fun Runner, enthused.
The bank CEO said the marathon was a good forum for reunion, exercise and fun. “That people could abandon the special day of Valentine to be part of this Glo medical intervention speaks volumes of the fastest growing telecoms network on the continent,” Mr. Akinfemiwa declared. He urged Nigerians and indeed Africans to continue ruling their world through the unprecedented instrumentality of Glo.
Also speaking on the occasion, the special guest and publisher of Ovation international magazine, Chief Dele Momodu, who flew in from Abuja last night just for the event, affirmed that the marathon was spectacular beyond his imagination and expectation. “It created fantasy for the runners and unparalleled fun for me. For busy CEOs like me, this kind of forum is particularly good because of the inherent health benefits. It was indeed an opportunity for me to recreate, unwind and exchange banter with people I have not seen for years,” Chief Momodu said.
Former international ace sprinter and Elite Manager for the international athletes in the upcoming marathon, Mrs. Falilat Ogunkoya-Omotayo, extolled Globacom Chairman, Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr, (CON), for creating this kind of platform. She implored Glo to extend the marathon to other parts of the country, especially the grassroots, so that in the future there would be replacements for today’s stars.
In her words: “It is only Glo that has the pedigree and capacity to achieve the spread because of its nationalistic antecedents,” the celebrated sprinter said.
Exxon Mobil came first in the corporate race, while Lekki Concession and International Packaging Company took the second and third positions, respectively. The team leaders in this category who braced the tape in the above order, Uche Orizu, Dora Sonariwo and Shola Ogubanjo, praised Glo for its commitment to the development of sports, individuals and transnational economies.
The Vice-President of Nigerian Heart Foundation, Engr. Adeyemi Wilson, and the Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Mr. Sunday Bada, thanked Glo for their partnership and contributions to the upkeep of humanity. Mr. Bada said in his remarks that the corporate marathon met global standards by all parameters. He said AFN was already looking forward to the main marathon on Saturday.
.
Globacom Executive Directors, Mrs. Gladys Talabi (Legal Services), who also coordinated the marathon, and Mr. Adewale Sangowawa (Human Resources), in their comments, said Globacom would continue to seek new and better ways of serving Nigerians and empowering them to rule their world.
